The 4×5 enlarger is built using heavy-duty shelving brackets, based on an idea I found on APUG.org. The frame is constructed from aluminum and plywood.
The bellows were originally made for a homemade camera project. Although they were slightly twisted and a bit ugly, they performed well, and their appearance was unimportant for this application.
The light stage, negative stage, and lens stage can each be aligned independently using threaded rods. Focusing is also accomplished with a threaded rod. (Yes, aligning everything takes patience! 😉)
The light source consists of six 11-watt “daylight” fluorescent bulbs (approximately equivalent to six 75-watt tungsten bulbs), positioned behind a frosted Perspex diffuser to provide even illumination.
